He is also an inventor with 7 patents. His research results were highlighted, featured and reported by over 100 news outlets all over the world.
报告摘要 :
Explosive research activities on nanoscience and nanotechnology in the last 15 years have led to remarkable development of nanoelements (nanoparticles, nanowires, nanotubes, nanoplatelets) with unique properties. However, integrating nanoelements into large scale systems for applications is a grand challenge. On the other hand, there are increasing demands on ultrahigh performance metals to solve the energy and sustainability challenges facing our society. However, the traditional methods (alloying and thermomechanical processing) of improving the performance of metals have reached certain limits. This talk will present the recent advances on addressing these challenges by integrating nanotechnology and metals processing (metals nanoprocessing). The scientific and technical aspects of introducing nanoelements into bulk metals for scalable manufacturing will be discussed. The manufacturing processes we developed to integrate nanoelements into bulk metals lead to fabrication of metal matrix nanocomposites with record-high specific strength and specific modulus among all engineering metals. The nanoelements are also successfully used to improve processability of metals, which solved a long-standing challenge (more than 100 years) of immiscible alloy casting. Metals nanoprocessing opens up opportunities to drive performance and processing of metals to the next level.
